STATEMENT OF FAITH
I grew up in a United Methodist Church and am grateful to God for parents who saw to it that I was brought up correctly. Most of my adult life I have been a member of the Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, TN where I have had the honor to lead a class of adults who have taught me more than I ever taught them.
If there is an official theme song or hymn for Cumberland Presbyterians, it is "Whosoever Will" because that sums up our theology. We believe as do other Protestants, in God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. We accept, endorse and attempt to live by the Holy Bible, believing it to be the only infallible rule of faith and practice.
Finally, we believe that Jesus, God's only begotten Son, was born of a virgin, lived among us, gave His life and was resurrected so that we, who accept Him, may have eternal life in Heaven. The offer of salvation is open to whosoever will accept it.
If you do not have the peace and assurancce that comes from knowing Jesus as your very own personal Lord and Savior and do earnestly repent of your sins, take a look at the prayer that follows and see if it applies to you.
Prayer of Salvation
Lord Jesus, I know I have sinned and have fallen short of your glory. I want to change, but I need you. I want you to be the Lord of my life. Right now, I invite you into my life and accept you. I want to be the person I was born to be. Amen
